The Waterside Restaurant, situated in Brighton Marina’s Rendezvous Casino, is one of Brighton’s hidden gems. Far-reaching views across the gaming floor mean that you can keep an eye on the gambling action while you dine, but intimate tables tucked away from the wheels enable a top-notch dining experience away from the lively atmosphere.
Soft lighting with a modern and bold interior give the restaurant a cosy yet contemporary feel. The menu offers a wide variety of British and international cuisine, with carefully considered options for vegetarians. The steaks are famous here; choose from wagyu sirloin, Buccleuch rib-eye and T-bone, or perhaps the 28-day-aged fillet, cooked to your liking and served with your choice of side. Add one of the steak sauces for the ultimate steak dinner. Also on offer are a fantastic range of cocktails, gin and delicious mocktails to pair with your meal.
I enjoyed the highly recommended breaded Brie fritters with red onion chutney to start, which set me up well for the lighter lemon sole and spinach roulade to follow. Beautifully presented with tender green beans and crisp potatoes on the side, this is a delightfully fresh dish and it pairs perfectly with a crisp glass of white wine. The meal was rounded off with indulgent and most welcome salted caramel popcorn and chocolate brownie sundae. I was also fortunate enough to sample the classic lemon meringue pie with delicately flavoured lime and pistachio cream. A mouth-watering Sunday roast menu is available each week, and is extremely popular with casino-goers and restaurant visitors alike.
The restaurant supports the Food for Thought initiative, so diners can add just 99p to their bill and give towards planting a tree to counterbalance the carbon footprint of dining at the restaurant. The Waterside has been able to support the environment by purchasing many trees thanks to diners’ generosity with this scheme. This really is a spectacular venue and well worth a visit, whether or not the casino is on your agenda.

Located in Kursaal Amusement Park, one of the earliest theme parks, in the Essex seaside town of Southend, the Rendezvous Casino is part of the Caesars Entertainment group. The casino shares the complex with a bowling alley and other amusements and is within walking distance of the seafront esplanade and the famous Southend pier, the world’s longest pleasure pier at 1.3 miles. The Rendezvous has a 23,000 square foot casino floor and is located on the second floor.
Drivers should take the A127 onto the A13 where members will find free parking adjacent to the casino. Southend Victoria station is just over a mile from the action and Southend Central just under. Southend Airport is just over three miles away and Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton airports are all between 45 and 55 miles distance. Being a seaside town there are many hotels to choose from with the nearest being the Hope, Park Inn and the Falcon, as well as a plethora of independent B and Bs.
The main gaming floor has 20 slots and 28 fully automated roulette terminals, 20 gaming tables with nine American Roulette tables, five Blackjack, three Three Card Poker and one Baccarat.
